Gold no: 9
First a note on a air ring recovery I tried, but a little background first.I got a call from Alan at Tauranga to say he had tried to find a lost air ring with no success, and on trying the existing air ring on the etrac there was no response at all,I had a thought that my Xterra 705 that has a pretty sensitive gold setting may be able to locate it.At the owners house a quick ground balance and a wave over the serviving air ring gave no result at all, apparently it is white gold and clearly marked 9kt (see pic).Anyone have any thoughts? As this has me stumped.....also has me thinking what else I (we) are missing......hmmmmm.
Back at Shakespear bay for a few hours and found gold no:9 for the year ( I counted wrong on the last post)

Two golds in two days......yippeee
Here are again back at the Mount for a few days, just had an excellant few weeks celebrating my wifes 60th birthday with a cruise around NZ then to Tasmania,Melbourne,Sydney. Then a great week with no1 son and his lovely lady in Surfers,Wouldn't you know it Surfers just had 5 metre swells and the beach is very scalloped out and looking good for detecting........did I take a detector....dont ask. After a bit of sulking I managed to get over it.
Back at the Mt and talking to Allan (etrac user) learned of a lost valuable ring,so a plan was hatched with Allan,Colin (CTX owner) and myself to try a recovery operation,At the beach at 7am and an extensive grid search was tried, unfortunatly there was no loud YEE HAA'S...Later that evening I tried an older section of beach that produced a few dollars and my 6th gold ring 9kt for the year, the following evening I was back to the main beach on the low tide and turned up no 7 for the year this is a chunky ring marked 414 I assume that is 12kt . Also a wee silver ring, and a no go 18kt plated ladies watch. The two rings are going on a three month probation to Mr Plod, hopefully I will get them back again.

Gold in them thar beaches
Here we are back in Auckland again, and paid a visit to one the many ARC parks, these parks attract enormous amounts of beachgoers and family picnics over the summer weekends.Fortunatly we were at this park during the week when it was relatively quite.I guess I put in a total of 6 hours over a two day period working my way slowly around the pohutukawa trees, then the second day was spent on the beach at low tide. Most of the beach was very sanded up, but a bit of time spent studying the fall of the land paid of.
Both of the gold rings came from the wet sand area as did the other 3 (two silver, one junk),the large gold ring came in at 12:24,while the smaller was around 12:20 both are 9kt,there is no doubt about that solid sound of a good target. The total coins were around $49, on an hourly rate thats not to flash, but hey its another half a tank of diesel.

Goodies from new years eve
I keep forgetting to post these, although there is not a great deal of nice sparkling gold, there is around $40 in gold coins and small change, most of it came from the Mt main beach,in the early hours before the crowds gather.
Interesting story here as I was detecting a gut approached me and asked if I had found his nieces
engagement ring, turns out she lost it in the wee hours while celebrating, well the next 3 hours were spent trying to locate it,in the time I was doing this I was approached by 3 other people all looking for lost items,One was a gold ring that was lost further up the beach, another was looking for his wallet and iphone which he had left in a plastic bag.....duhh,and the final person had lost his car keys.
Although I tried I could not find any of these lost items, which is a shame as the girl was pretty distraught. Some of the items came from the Paeroa race course, unfortunatly the wee heart shaped pendant is not silver but looks good......

a few more bits and pieces
Found a few dollars, along with the never ending sinkers,I had a theory about people getting shelfish in the sand and muddy coastlines,my thoughs were surely they must lose rings and bling etc while poking around after pipis, cockles etc.
I visited an Eastern Auckland beach and the results were the 4 silver rings in the picture alas no gold, but my feelings are they must be there the bracelet had me going for a while, it is clearly stamped 18kt,turns out it is a cheapie ah well it looked good for a bit........cheers and a great newyear to all
