My finds since coming back from Aus

Well here we are back in NZ,bought another house and we are both back working hard, the aim is to hit the road again at some stage (when the bank account is back in the healthy stage).I left the Xterra back in Aussie, sold it to a friend, that was a real hard decision as they are in my mind, one of the best detectors ever made, but since buying the Etrac it was not getting used.
I meet a few interesting detector users over there and picked up lots of tips for any future gold hunting trips, but in the mean time I have been getting back out at the Mt beaches and parks,as can be seen in the pics,a bit of silver and two white gold rings (the toe ring and the small wedding ring).
The charm bracelett had me going for a bit,but unfortunately is junk. The halfcrown, penny's and old bullets came from an old park that is not very well known all the crusty coins came from a spot at the beach I stumbled across they kept me busy for about three hours.......may the summer be good to you all....  jim

A bit of Gold from the Gold Coast

We are now at Surfers staying with Son and GF,( ahhh its great to be living with the kids, eat all their food and shower as long as you want haha ) I have been hammering the beaches here, but it is very hard going, they had a massive storm here a while ago but now the beaches are very sanded up,as they trucked in tons of sand to replace that they lost to the storm.
The local MDers had a ball at the time, apparently detecting all night and getting loads of goodies that were lost many years ago.The large bracelet is marked "ITALY" and stamped 325 -1/10- 925 I guess that means it is 9/10ths 9kt gold and 1/10 silver and weighs 6.5 gms.The other  wee bracelet is unmarked but sure has the appearance of gold. The rest are just normal currency (one kiwi dollar and a one pound coin),the watch was an eyeball find and goes great. And two more cars for the stable.
Most days there are other detectorists on the beach so they do get a hammering in the height of the season.

WOW I FOUND A BEAUTY

YEEHAA I FOUND MY DREAM FIND
WOW I am still buzzing,I went to the old railway station in the picture,i found a few older pennies and other bits when I got this really good hit (12:20),thinking it was just another old teartab I dug it up carelessly, when I saw the shin of gold I thought that's strange a dollar coin that deep and its still nice and shiney. As soon as I picked it up I knew what it was, well my legs turned to jelly,I went light headed, and leapt around like a spring lamb, just aswell there was no one around I think they would have locked me up.I just had to go to the pub and have a fix, till my knees stopped knocking. It is a 1908 gold sovereign 22 kt minted here in Perth.

I went back and spent another hour at the same spot, thinking it might have been part of a hidden cashe.
But hey I was more than happy with just the one,Thats one more tick off the bucket list Sorry about the quality of the pics I'm still shaking haha.......KJ

A few bits from WA

Howdy I spent half a day at the old house in the picture,it is situated close to an old railway station that is now long gone, although I found a lot of coins none of them were as old as the house (1880).The best find to me is the the old dog registration tag (1923).What worried me was snakes there is lots of them in this area, making lots of noise seems to be the answer.
Today I teamed up with another expat kiwi (Brett) we spent a few hours in an old paddock next to the local pub, between today and a few hours yesterday I found around 55 coins ranging in age from 1873 through to 1962,I sure would like to find a 1930 Aussie penny (A good one worth $100,000) I found 1928,1929,1931 and 1932,still looking for the 1930 one,has anyone got any thoughts on the little iron,it is only about 3" long and made of lead,so clearly it can't be heated up.Also found a few old military buttons and badges

A few more aussie $

Howdy all,I have been getting out a bit over here and getting a few dollars in return, although the picture looks pretty impressive it took a lot of work to get that amount of coins,I probably visited 8 different parks and tot lots, the majority of them I have clearly been beaten to,but there is a few around that are harder to see from the road and they can be pretty rewarding.
The problem of course is the massive distances to get anywhere, not like home were its only 5 minutes to the beach, here its around an hours drive then its a matter of finding an area that will produce as the coast just goes on for ever. But its a great way to see the sights.
The older coins I have been picking up around town, nothing real old yet which suprises me as this area was settled way back in 1838,I just need to do a bit more homework on the older sights etc, instead of going to the pub... haha.

I have a new detecting recruit

Just had to post this picture,my new grandson Liam in a relaxed mode.
The other pics are coins I have found in and around this area, the Aussie $2 coins soon add up,also another couple of silver rings,I have had two trips to the local beaches but they are very sanded up,and as they are 100kms away a bit of beforehand planning is required.
The last picture is the after shot of the same coins after being soaked in plain old lemon juice, yip that's right it works a treat, loosens up all that old dirt and crud, good enough to pass them over the counter again without to many strange looks.I wouldn't recommend mixing silver coins with newer ones, the acid sets up a reaction......jim

The best treasure yet

Well it finally happened, our wee grandson arrived (7lb 6oz),what a little gem, sure has all the household on there toe's.Along with a few sleepless nights and blurly eye balls. But we are enjoying every moment of our time with him.
I managed to get back to the local park and managed another good haul of Aussie $2 coins, they are very small and obviously get lost easy. They have come in handy for all the trips to the hospital for parking meters (70kms away). The bonus was the .925 silver ring but it is to damaged to ever be used again and only good for scrap now.

News from Aussie

We are living at a small WA town called Gingin, about 70km North of Perth, still waiting for number one grandchild to arrive, should be anyday now.I just had to call into a metal detecting shop here for a noisy, boy o boy do these guys have some gear available, most of it of course targets the serious gold hunter, and there is a lot of people doing that.GPX5000's are everywhere. The guy tried to sell me a new Deus,I must admit they are pretty remarkable with there wireless concept, and super light to handle, but of course they no good for the beach hunter that likes to wade in knee deep water,as the electrical pulse is broken by the water.
The owner of the shop invited me to a detecting comp he and minelab were putting on,I turned up at 9.30am along with around 120 others, some were very experienced and around half were newbies, but we all had a great day (I managed to find two of the four hidden targets). But the best part was the raffles 3 tickets for $20 gave me a shot at three prizes of new detectors 1st was a CTX3030,2nd an XTERRA 705,3rd an XTERRA 305,all great prizes, would you believe I was one number off winning the CTX,,$#@%.Ah well,it was great to see all of the prizes went to new detectorists.Today I went to a very old park in town, athough I didn't find any ild coins I was expecting to get,I was more than happy with the results, the gold ring is a little cracker.

My last detect in NZ for a while

Hi all,we are back at the Mount for a few days, put the camper and ute into storage and heading off to Aussie for the arrival of our first grandchild (finally). And all going well we will stay there for the winter and do some fruit picking or what ever comes along.Or may buy a GPX and go bush (haha).
I had a few spare hours so headed to the beach on the low tide,I tried a new technique, just marked out an area of sand and concentrated on that area but super slowly, the results were interesting the first signal was a 12-17,normally I would not dig this as it would be a teartab. But surprise surprise a nice 9kt mans ring,The nice silver ring rang up 12-42,unfortunatly the stones are glass but still a nice ring.
Hopefully my next post will include some AU $ and with a bit of luck some gold to bring home.

Some nice silver coins

We stayed at Waihi for a night, lots of old houses here  with untouched back yards, just itching to be detected on.I spent a bit of time at an old park an came up with the old silver coins and a few pennys, strange thing is that the pennys don't match the years of the silver coins,I suspect there may have been a fair here in the early days, the ground has been turned over at some stage and all the coins were well spread out,I initially thought the ring was a goodie but a quick clean changed that, all the silver coins cleaned up real well as can be seen.
